Savour the taste
Julia is a food writer for The New York Times, and runs a popular cooking class on YouTube called ‘Julia’s Kitchen’. Unsurprisingly, she’s also a celebrity chef specialising in Mod Sin cuisine.
She leaves New York for Singapore, to attend her mother’s funeral, but not before finding out that she’s pregnant, breaking up with her boyfriend, and having an abortion. Back in Singapore, she returns to the flat she grew up in and recalls the strained relationship with her mother. Julia blames her deceased mother, Ling, for allowing her to be the illegitimate daughter of a single parent laksa hawker.
While packing up her mother’s flat, Julia discovers the emotional landscape of her mother’s life through journals she left behind. She develops an empathy for what Ling went through, from the sacrifices and choices her mother made for her.
In ‘Mother’s Laksa’, you’ll get to savour the true essence of selfless love and reconcile the struggles of finding closure and acceptance in a story that will deeply touch your hearts.
